RECE
(REGE 30 OCT 09
Chambers,
Supreme Court, Hongkong,
635
24th. September, 1909.
I have the honour to forward copy of Mr.
Marcus Slade's renewal of his application to be appointed King's
Counsel in the Colony.
2.
The circumstances have altered considerably
since his former application was made and refused by the
Secretary of State.
3.
The only King's Counsel now practising
are Sir Henry Berkeley, and Mr. Pollock, and it generally
happens that one of them is away as at the present time. Mean-
-while, no less than three juniors have recently been admitted;
they are all at work, and I think it is more than probable that
they will remain; for there is quite enough work for them all.
There are therefore six members of the junior Bar, and it would
be to the advantage of the Court if another King's Counsel were
appointed, so that there may always he at least two in the
Colony. Mr. Slade has the largest practice at the Bar, and is in
every way fitted for the honour of the appointment he now soli-
-cits.
His Excellency
Sir Frederick Lugard, K.C.H.G., Governor of Hongkong.
I have etc.,
(sd.) F. T. Piggott,
Chief Justice.
